Ok, not really but you remember that movie right? Way back when it came out some friends of ours saw it and said it reminded them of us. We're kind of like that in the fact that we don't always know what we're doing when we take a chance and run with it.
Hi! I'm April and together with my husband, Ryan we own The Haberdasher in Moab, UT. Just the latest adventure we've taken! Thanks for coming along for the ride. As I begin this blog I've struggled to know where to begin and I think I've concluded to start at the beginning and we'll jump back and forth as I share past travels and experiences with you.
The last few years had been a struggle for us. Our children moved out leaving our house so quiet, Ryan travelled almost 200 days each year for work, leaving the house even more quiet. And now both his mother and grandmother which we had been helping to care for had passed on from this life. The first part of 2021 we got anxious for change. Don't worry, you'll get used to this! We feel this way every couple years. We had everything we wanted...A large old house on 5 wooded acres, within a few miles of all our kids and grandkids but still, we were itching for change.
In March we really wanted to get away from the cold and snow of an Idaho winter and took a trip south to Moab. Well, the rest is history. We fell in love with the warm weather. It was March and we were mountain biking in and not freezing. Could it get any better than this? We had missed mountain biking so much! The little town in Idaho was an at least 1 1/2 hours from good biking and we had not been much since moving there.
Within just a few months we sold our beautiful home and purchased another in Moab. And so it begins...biking, hiking, soaking up the sun. I thought I would start writing since my days were no longer taken up with lawn mowing, weeding, harvesting flowers, watching cute grandbabies and taking care of ailing family. I had every intention of becoming a writer. But you know what I found out? I'm not a writer, I'm a dreamer, and imaginer, a researcher. I want to get lost in a book, someone else's story. So obviously, the answer was to open a clothing boutique. Makes sense.
This time in the matter of weeks, we had secured a lease, gone to NYC to purchase inventory and started renovations for The Haberdasher. We opened our doors just before Thanksgiving 2021 and can't wait to see what's to come!
